About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Academic Services plays a crucial role in enhancing the academic success of student-athletes at Grambling. This position is dedicated to fostering personal development, leadership abilities, community service, and career development among student-athletes while ensuring their academic progress towards degree completion. The Assistant Athletic Director will work closely with coaches and athletics administration to monitor and report on the academic performance of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA and SWAC rules and regulations. In this role, the Assistant Athletic Director will be responsible for facilitating meetings and providing statistical reports on each team's academic progress. They will assist in the completion of various correspondence related to student-athletes and will plan, coordinate, and execute special events within the student-athlete enhancement unit, such as welcome back activities, athletic banquets, and honors breakfasts/dinners. The position also involves developing and facilitating workshops focused on leadership development to help student-athletes enhance their leadership skills both on and off the field. Additionally, the Assistant Athletic Director will oversee the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and perform any other duties assigned by the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reporting information on student-athlete progress to coaches and the athletics administration.
  • Assist in monitoring academic success for student-athletes.
  • Facilitates meetings and provides statistical reports to coaches and athletics administration of each team's academic progress.
  • Assist with the completion of various correspondence as it relates to the student-athletes.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes all special events housed within the student-athlete enhancement unit (i.e. welcome back activity, athletic banquet, honors breakfast/dinner, etc.).
  • Must be committed to maintaining compliance with NCAA and SWAC rules and regulations.
  • Works directly with the supervisor on strategy and goals for academic services.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops on key topics of leadership development to help student-athletes grow leadership skills on and off the playing surface.
  • Oversees the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
  • Any other duties assigned by the VP of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Two to Five years of experience in a related field.
  • Effective written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use Team Works, INFLCR, social media, and other forms of communication.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Sound judgment and maturity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree.
  • Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics academics.
