About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at Bowie State University is responsible for overseeing the institution's compliance program, ensuring adherence to NCAA and CIAA regulations, and coordinating recruitment activities for student-athletes. This role involves managing compliance education, monitoring recruitment processes, and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders within the athletics department and external organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise all aspects of the NCAA Division II compliance program, including CIAA, NCAA, and institutional rules.
  • Manage all components of Name Image Likeness (NIL).
  • Complete EADA, NCAA-EADA, APR, ASR, IPEDS, USM-ICA, and ATS reports by deadlines.
  • Input and monitor NCAA Squad Lists through CAI Compliance Assistance Internet software or approved software.
  • Administer and manage Spry software.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities of prospective student-athletes with head coaches.
  • Work with the office of admission and financial aid to maximize institutional resources.
  • Organize and manage an institutional compliance team.
  • Provide legislative and interpretive guidelines for the department.
  • Responsible for rules education program for coaches and staff.
  • Prepare required NCAA waivers and appeals.
  • Assist with grant-in-aids and National Letter of Intents.
  • Assist in investigating and processing rule violations.
  • Represent the Department of Athletics as a liaison to the CIAA and the NCAA.
  • Assist the VP and coaching staff in developing positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Serve as program liaison (sports oversight) to one or more athletic programs.
  • Manage facility schedule for the department.
  • Manage/oversee the complimentary ticket process for home athletic events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in an intercollegiate athletic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to appreciate and work with a culturally diverse student population.
  • Ability to initiate and manage services and programs.
