About the position

Ottawa University is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance to join our team at the Surprise, AZ campus. This full-time position is integral to the success of our 31 varsity athletics programs, ensuring that all aspects of eligibility, compliance, and student success are met in accordance with NAIA and NCCAA rules. The Assistant AD for Compliance will work closely with campus athletic teams and their members, providing guidance and support to ensure that all student-athletes are compliant with eligibility requirements and are progressing towards their academic goals. The role involves managing the eligibility certification process for all participating student-athletes, which includes educating the athletics department on compliance rules and regulations. The Assistant AD will collaborate with faculty and advisors to help student-athletes understand their degree requirements and ensure they are on track for graduation. This position also requires the development of systems to track student-athlete grades, oversee mid-semester reports, and create intervention plans to assist those who may be struggling academically. In addition to compliance responsibilities, the Assistant AD will oversee the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), coordinate game contracts, and work with the Assistant AD for Athletics Communications to nominate student-athletes for various awards. The successful candidate will maintain a strong knowledge of current trends in student-athlete development and compliance, and will be proactive in building positive relationships across campus to enhance the Athletics Department's brand. This position requires a commitment to the university's mission and values, including inclusivity and ethical conduct in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute the eligibility certification process for all participating student-athletes.
  • Enforce all rules within the NAIA, NCCAA, SAC, and GSAC, ensuring compliance with these regulations.
  • Collaborate with faculty and department advisors to ensure student-athletes understand degree requirements and progress toward their degrees.
  • Work with Admissions, Retention, and Registrar departments to support new and continuing students.
  • Advise the Director of Athletics on student-athlete experience issues.
  • Develop a system for tracking student-athlete grades and create intervention plans as needed.
  • Compile reports and communicate with coaches regarding students of concern and create plans to assist them.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues across campus to enhance the Athletics Department brand.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant AD for Athletics Communications to nominate individuals and teams for various awards.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends in student-athlete development and compliance matters.
  • Assure a working knowledge of admissions and financial aid policies and provide support to staff.
  • Identify department risks and discuss risk reduction options with the Supervisor.
  • Develop and oversee the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
  • Supervise event management as directed by the Director of Athletics.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant AD for Operations regarding game contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of study; Master's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working within an athletic department and with compliance-related duties essential.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills, including leadership and direction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse client group.
  • Knowledge of professional behavior and standards of protocol in a collegiate athletic setting.

Nice-to-haves
