About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director for Development at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and securing annual gifts to support VCU Athletics. This role involves collaboration with the Development staff to enhance donor participation and contributions, ultimately benefiting the student-athlete experience. The position reports to the Senior Associate AD for Development and includes overseeing the annual fund, managing donor interactions, and executing fundraising strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the annual fund for VCU Athletics, including all restricted and unrestricted giving to the Ram Athletic Fund.
  • Maintain a database of active annual fund donors.
  • Conduct and document 100-125 significant interactions with donors during the academic year.
  • Plan and develop special projects and major department events to increase the annual donor base.
  • Develop, install, and execute annual fundraising strategies to enhance Ram Athletic Fund totals.
  • Coordinate individual sport fundraising for specified sports.
  • Assist with management and oversight of the Ram Athletic Fund Board.
  • Coordinate social media strategies for the Ram Athletic Fund.
  • Manage all special events.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to a bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of one (1) to (2) years' experience in fundraising required, preferably at the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics level.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • An advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.
  • Three (3) years' experience in fundraising, preferably at the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics level.
  • Working knowledge of Paciolon software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of donor management software.
