About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations (Director) will report to the Deputy Athletic Director and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of Facilities and Event Management within the Athletic Department. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the planning and implementation of all game operation activities and the management of special events in Athletic department venues. The individual will oversee daily facilities management and work requests, assist with Capital Project Management and Facilities Master Planning, and participate in developing and monitoring the facility and event management budget. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting with contract management and coordination with outside agencies that provide services or equipment for Athletic and University events. The Assistant Athletic Director will also maintain up-to-date emergency and event-related policies and procedures for the department, serving as the Athletic Department liaison to Event Services within the university and acting as a liaison with other units of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Utah State, as well as with the Cache Valley and Utah State University communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for pre and post event planning and execution of plans for all athletic events.
  • Oversee all event set-up and ensure that all athletic venues comply with Mountain West and NCAA standards and regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to all Mountain West event policies and procedures, including game official guidelines and game management personnel responsibilities.
  • Implement proper safety and crowd control measures for entrance and exit at all athletic events.
  • Assign sport game management responsibilities to support staff and provide leadership and direction.
  • Direct operations meetings to coordinate all aspects for internal and external entities for athletic events.
  • Manage all budgets for events, facilities, and equipment, and forecast future expenses.
  • Train, supervise, instruct, and direct staff, assigning work schedules and evaluating all positions.
  • Maintain life cycle plans for all major equipment needs.
  • Oversee special groups used for events, including table crew, replay technicians, field crew, official book, game clock, etc.
  • Hire, train, and schedule positions for event support.
  • Serve as a department liaison with various campus entities, including facilities, police, telecommunications, fire, and all first responders.
  • Oversee all Athletic Department maintenance for all venues and fields in conjunction with the University Facilities Department.
  • Prepare bids for large purchases related to events, facilities, and equipment, ensuring compliance with buying rules and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 3 years of athletic work experience within athletic venue operation and management in events, facilities, or equipment.
  • Ability to adhere to the University Travel and Driving policies and maintain the ability to drive for official business.
  • Willingness to work a nontraditional schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5 years of Division I Athletic work/internship experience in event and facilities management or equipment operations.
  • Experience with Intercollegiate athletics or internship/work and/or high school athletics full-time work experience.
