About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director or Director of Academic Success at Belmont University is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive academic support programs for NCAA Division 1 student-athletes. This role involves providing academic advising, monitoring academic progress, and ensuring compliance with NCAA and university eligibility requirements. The position also includes preparing assessments for prospective student-athletes and compiling data for reporting purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of academic support programs for student-athletes.
  • Provide academic advising and support to assigned teams.
  • Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA and university requirements.
  • Prepare unofficial admissibility and eligibility assessments for prospective student-athletes.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during campus visits.
  • Compile data related to student-athlete success for reporting and promotion purposes.
  • Welcome new student-athletes during Summer Orientation and assist with their transition to Belmont.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of academic support services and student-athlete programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of directly related experience in academic support services and intercollegiate athletics administration required; 4-6 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of academic standards of recruitment, admissions, retention, and graduation requirements.
  • Strong leadership ability and flexibility to manage multiple tasks.
  • Understanding of NCAA compliance and academic eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of institutional academic database and software systems, including Banner, Argos, and DegreeWorks preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a NCAA Division 1 athletic program.
  • Familiarity with FERPA and HIPAA laws.
