About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Medicine position at Roxbury Community College is a vital role within the athletics department, reporting directly to the Director of Athletics. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sports medicine for the college's NJCAA-sponsored athletics teams. The primary focus is to ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes by monitoring practices and games, evaluating injuries, and providing necessary therapeutic interventions, rehabilitation, and treatment. The Assistant Athletic Director will also oversee strength and conditioning training to enhance athletes' performance and prevent injuries. In addition to the hands-on medical responsibilities, this role includes significant administrative duties, assisting the Athletics Director with the daily supervision of intercollegiate athletics. This includes developing and implementing policies and programs aimed at promoting the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Director will be actively involved in the academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with academic standards, and coordinating travel arrangements for athletic events. The position requires extensive interaction with students and coaches, necessitating strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a diverse population. The Assistant Athletic Director will also manage health records, document injury evaluations, and maintain communication with healthcare-related departments on campus to facilitate comprehensive care for student-athletes. This role is essential in fostering a supportive and safe environment for all athletes at Roxbury Community College.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Sports Medicine services by setting the tone/culture within the Athletics Department.
  • Improve quality of care for student-athletes to prevent injuries and facilitate quick recovery within medical directives.
  • Provide daily practice and game coverage for all NJCAA teams.
  • Develop and implement policies and programs designed to promote the health, safety, and performance of RCC student-athletes.
  • Oversee the strength and conditioning program for student-athletes to build strength and avoid injuries.
  • Assist the Athletics Director with supervising and coordinating intercollegiate athletics.
  • Monitor the academic progress of all student-athletes.
  • Attend practices to ensure compliance and management.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for student-athletes.
  • Refer student-athletes to appropriate medical professionals for further evaluation of injuries and mental health issues.
  • Create schedules based on practice and game calendars, providing coverage for various times including mornings, afternoons, and weekends.
  • Manage health records and forms for student-athletes, ensuring completion of the clearance process before participation.
  • Maintain communication with health-care-related departments on campus to provide multiple avenues for healing.
  • Perform administrative work as necessary and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in athletic training required.
  • 2-4 years of previous experience in athletic training required.
  • Certification by BOC in Athletic Training and as a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health required.
  • Certification in Emergency Cardiac Care Certification (CPR/AED) required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
