About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director for Strategy and Analytics at Penn State University is responsible for overseeing the scholarship budget allocations for the athletic department, which manages a budget exceeding $20 million. This role involves collaboration with various sports programs to allocate resources effectively, forecast funding needs, and ensure compliance with NCAA and university regulations. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to provide strategic insights to optimize resource utilization and maintain Title IX compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee scholarship budget allocations for the athletic department.
  • Analyze scholarship, operating, and personnel budgets to provide strategic data analysis.
  • Manage, analyze, and execute ICA scholarship allocations and revenue share commitments.
  • Collaborate with program coaches to establish and manage annual scholarship budgets.
  • Forecast and analyze future recruiting class needs and provide recommendations.
  • Monitor and track current roster expenditures to ensure budget alignment.
  • Prepare financial reports and provide insights to the ICA Executive Staff.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures related to scholarship funding and budget management.
  • Stay updated on best practices in budget management and compliance regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Proven experience in budget management or financial planning, ideally in collegiate athletics.
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and budgeting software; experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Big Ten Conference rules and regulations regarding financial aid and scholarships.
  • Experience with financial management systems and databases.
  • Ability to develop strategic initiatives for the financial health of the athletic department.
