About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director at Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics will oversee the scholarship budget allocations for an athletic department with a budget exceeding $20 million. This role is crucial for collaborating with various sports programs to allocate resources effectively, forecast funding needs, and manage expenditures throughout the year, ensuring compliance with NCAA and university regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze all scholarship, operating and personnel budgets and expenses to provide strategic data analysis for optimal fund utilization.
  • Manage, analyze, and execute ICA scholarship allocations, revenue share commitments, and athlete marketing agreements to ensure resource optimization and Title IX compliance.
  • Collaborate with program coaches to establish and manage annual scholarship budgets and allocations.
  • Forecast and analyze future recruiting class needs and provide recommendations to maximize athlete compensation resources.
  • Monitor and track current roster expenditures to ensure alignment with budget constraints throughout the academic year.
  • Prepare financial reports and provide insights to the ICA Executive Staff to ensure compliance with NCAA and University regulations.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures related to scholarship funding and budget management.
  • Stay updated on best practices in budget management, salary cap strategies, and compliance regulations relevant to collegiate athletics and the Big Ten Conference.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in budget management, financial planning, or a similar role, ideally in a collegiate athletics environment.
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other budgeting software; experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Big Ten Conference rules and regulations as they pertain to financial aid and scholarships.
  • Experience working with financial management systems and databases.
  • Ability to develop strategic initiatives that contribute to the overall financial health of the athletic department.
