The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director for Student Athlete Services to play a pivotal role in supporting the academic and career development of student-athletes. This position involves providing comprehensive counseling and advising services to student-athletes regarding their major and career planning, ensuring they have access to accurate and timely information about their academic progress. The Assistant Athletic Director will also be responsible for the development and facilitation of training programs for new employees and ongoing training in student-athlete support services and development. This role requires collaboration with various campus committees and the completion of assigned projects, all while establishing and maintaining strong relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and faculty members. In addition to counseling responsibilities, the Assistant Athletic Director will supervise the Student-Athlete Associate/Assistant Directors, attend weekly senior staff meetings, and act as a liaison between the Student Programs and the Athletics Department. The position also includes managing the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring that student-athlete staff are adequately trained, and that all deadlines are met. The Assistant Athletic Director will oversee the Internship Program, organize the Summer Bridge, and facilitate New Student-Athlete Orientation Programs. Furthermore, this role involves providing administrative support to the Associate Athletic Director and working closely with faculty and staff to accommodate student-athletes' exam schedules, particularly during travel for athletic competitions. The Assistant Athletic Director must adhere to all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, reporting any known violations in accordance with established policies. This position also requires assisting in the development of class schedules and degree plans for assigned students, with a focus on meeting NCAA academic eligibility requirements. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as the role may require early morning, late evening, and weekend hours, along with travel with athletic teams as needed. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall mission of the Athletics Department.
