About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director at Illinois School District U-46 is responsible for overseeing the high school athletic program, providing leadership and guidance to coaches and student-athletes. This role emphasizes the importance of academic eligibility and the overall development of students in a competitive sports environment. The Assistant Athletic Director will work closely with the Athletic Director to ensure the smooth operation of the athletic department, including scheduling, budgeting, and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and lead a coaching staff, monitoring assignments and evaluating all coaches annually.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in selecting athletic staff and volunteers.
  • Design and implement an organizational structure that reports to the Athletic Director.
  • Work with the athletic secretary to verify participant registration and eligibility.
  • Assist in developing game schedules, practice schedules, facilities use, transportation needs, and program budget.
  • Communicate and plan practice sessions and competition strategies to ensure student health and well-being.
  • Coordinate pre-season parent meetings to review eligibility requirements and team rules.
  • Manage and coordinate practice and competition schedules throughout the year.
  • Submit requests for equipment, supplies, and uniforms to the Athletic Director.
  • Maintain inventory and care of equipment.
  • Foster effective communication with athletes, administration, staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Build and sustain a competitive program supported by the school and community.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director on fundraising activities and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Provide game results and maintain season statistics for the Athletic Director.
  • Establish relationships with local athletic organizations and K-8 sports programs.
  • Attend relevant events such as Freshman Orientation and 8th Grade Night.
  • Submit an annual end-of-season program evaluation with recommendations for improvements.

Requirements

  • CPR Certification
  • Teaching Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • AED Certification
  • 1 year of leadership experience
  • High school diploma or GED

Nice-to-haves

  • Head Varsity Coaching experience or professional coaching/player level equivalent preferred
  • Demonstrated positive conduct in previous coaching positions
  • Knowledge of effective coaching theory and strategies for high school athletes
