About the position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer at Life University supports the vision of the Athletics Department by providing comprehensive athletic training services to intercollegiate athletic programs. This role is essential in ensuring the well-being of student-athletes through injury prevention, care, and rehabilitation, while also adhering to the standards set by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).

Responsibilities

  • Abide by the Athletic Department Policy and Procedures and NATA standards for Life's athletes.
  • Provide coverage for home and away games and practices as assigned.
  • Supervise and maintain the athletic training room when the Director of Athletic Care is not present.
  • Serve as a liaison between the student-athlete, parents, coaches, and the medical community regarding athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Assist visiting athletic teams with their athletic training and medical needs.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor the rehabilitation of injured student-athletes.
  • Maintain the privacy of an athlete's health information and explain disclosure protocols.
  • Attend on-campus athletic training clinics with the team physician.
  • Maintain a file on the medical history of all student-athletes, including various medical records and reports.
  • Ensure awareness of each student-athlete's insurance coverage and follow proper protocols for insurance claims.
  • Assist in processing insurance forms for sports-related injuries.
  • Keep the Associate Athletic Trainer informed of equipment and supply needs.
  • Provide advice and counsel to student-athletes regarding emergency treatments for injuries and illnesses.
  • Make decisions regarding student-athlete participation based on injury assessments and medical advice.
  • Maintain current national and state licensure and certification requirements.
  • Participate in continuing education activities to stay updated on athletic training issues.
  • Maintain CPR/AED/First Aid requirements as defined by NATABOC.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master's degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related discipline.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) by the NATABOC.
  • Current Professional Rescuer CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to act independently and make decisions under all circumstances.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Positive attitude and behavior.
  • License to practice athletic training in Georgia, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

  • Experience in mentoring and teaching student interns.
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and resolve conflicts calmly.
