About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer at Purdue University Fort Wayne is responsible for delivering high-quality athletic health care to division one intercollegiate athletes. This full-time position collaborates with the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and team physicians to ensure the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The role also involves managing medical records, insurance claims, and maintaining the Athletic Training Room's operations and budget.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from a CAATE accredited athletic training education program.
  • 1 year of required knowledge and ability to apply Sports Medicine best practices at the clinical, high school, or post-secondary setting.
  • Must possess NATA-BOC certification and Indiana Athletic Training License within 7 calendar days, or an Indiana Physical Therapy License if you have a Physical Therapy Degree.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed.
  • Must be able to carry and lift items exceeding 50lbs.
  • Weekend availability.
  • Travel as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree from a CAATE accredited athletic training education program.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Scope of Practice Standards of an Athletic Trainer as outlined by the Board of Certification and the Indiana Board of Athletic Trainers.
  • Assist and oversee the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to student-athletes.
  • Apply athletic training best practices and procedures in treatments provided.
  • Participate and assist with the operations and activities of the Athletic Department, including practice and game coverage.
  • Organize and maintain all medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Document all injuries and treatment progress in athlete's medical record and write reports as required.
  • Maintain and manage student-athlete insurance information and file insurance claims as needed.
  • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
  • Make appropriate physician's referrals and appointments.
  • Assist with the management of the Athletic Training Room budgets, policies, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of Athletic Department Emergency Action Plan and health/environmental related policies.
  • Assist with the coordination of purchasing and use of all equipment and supplies needed in the operation of the Athletic Training Room.
  • Attend Athletic and/or Departmental meetings as required.
  • Coordinate work with other employees and adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations of the university, the conference, the NCAA, and the State of Indiana.
  • Handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed.
  • Research and analyze data and reports; provide professional training for participants, students, and staff; counsel and advise collegiate student-athletes.
  • Assist team with travel planning related to student-athlete health & wellbeing, as well as driving responsibilities if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
