About the position
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will create a positive, healthy, and safe environment for all student-athletes within the athletic programs. The role requires adherence to the rules and regulations established by Virginia State University, the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the agency and/or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor and complete all other duties as assigned by the Associate VP for Intercollegiate Athletics. Providing good customer service to students, faculty/staff, and constituents is also a key responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Create a positive, healthy, and safe environment for student-athletes.
- Abide by the rules and regulations established by relevant organizations.
- Assist in emergency situations as required.
- Complete duties assigned by the Associate VP for Intercollegiate Athletics.
- Provide good customer service to students, faculty/staff, and constituents.
Requirements
- Knowledge of providing first aid and preventative medical attention.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to work in a diverse and team setting.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Computer literacy.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college.
- Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
- Certification in CPR/AED.
- Licensure by the Board of Medicine.
- Display good customer service internally and externally.
