About the position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) plays a vital role in the supervision and coordination of the athletic medicine program. This position focuses on injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment of athletic injuries, as well as the rehabilitation of student-athletes. The role involves collaboration with the Director of Athletic Medicine and Team Physicians to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes while promoting their overall well-being and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services for the University's athletic department as directed by the Director of Athletic Medicine and/or Team Physician(s).
  • Assist in coordination and scheduling of all student-athletes for physical examinations and medical referrals.
  • Identify professional medical service needs of the intercollegiate athletics department and coordinate athletic training staff for coverage of practices and competitions.
  • Consult with the Director of Athletic Medicine and/or Team Physician(s) for guidance on treatment of injured student-athletes and report on their progress.
  • Maintain and organize all medical records on student-athletes.
  • Oversee inventory log of over-the-counter medications and ensure proper storage as per regulations.
  • Review and approve medical bills and insurance claims for accuracy and compliance with NCAA rules.
  • Assist in maintaining athletic training room supplies and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain an Athletic Medicine handbook/policy manual for staff and student athletic trainers.
  • Establish and enforce codes of conduct for athletic training facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain emergency management protocols and lightning policies for athletic teams.
  • Work with athletic performance staff on injury prevention and rehabilitation of student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with nutrition staff and coaching personnel regarding student-athlete nutritional issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Four (4) years of directly related experience at the collegiate level.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Certification in CPR/AED.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Two (2) years of directly related professional experience at the collegiate level.
