About the position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will support the Chief Medical Officer and Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in addressing the medical needs of student-athletes, focusing on the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. This role requires on-site work, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and involves travel to various athletic events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary medical coverage for assigned athletic teams during practices, competitions, and events.
  • Assist in designing and implementing rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
  • Maintain electronic medical records and evaluate athletes' readiness to compete.
  • Facilitate collaboration with allied health professionals for comprehensive care.
  • Coordinate drug testing for student-athletes in compliance with regulations.
  • Supervise and train undergraduate athletic training students and aides.
  • Comply with institutional policies and NCAA rules regarding medical coverage and expenses.
  • Act ethically and report any violations of laws or policies.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (or eligible).
  • NATABOC certification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with medical records management.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding athletic training.

Nice-to-haves

  • More than 3 years of athletic training experience in baseball at the professional or NCAA Division I level.
  • Advanced certifications in allied health specialties or advanced clinical skills.
  • Experience supervising athletic training students.
  • Experience with complementary and alternative therapies in athletic training.
