About the position

The Assistant Attorney General in the Residential Utilities Division plays a crucial role in advocating for residential and small business utility customers in Minnesota. This position involves working collaboratively with a dedicated team to influence policies that enhance the lives of utility ratepayers. The attorney will primarily represent clients before the Public Utilities Commission and the Office of Administrative Hearings, with opportunities to engage in appellate court proceedings and stakeholder discussions on public utility policy.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for residential and small business utility customers.
  • Represent clients before the Public Utilities Commission and the Office of Administrative Hearings.
  • Engage in appellate court proceedings as necessary.
  • Collaborate with analysts to develop and promote policies for utility ratepayers.
  • Participate in stakeholder groups addressing public utility policy.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school and licensed to practice in Minnesota or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire.
  • Interest in public utilities, energy, or telecom law.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage an active caseload and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in an inclusive, creative, and collaborative environment.

  • Experience in public utilities, energy, or telecom law.
  • Knowledge in accounting, finance, economics, and/or engineering.
