About the position

The Assistant Barn Manager at Centenary University plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of the Equine Center, focusing on the proper care of horses and supporting students and faculty in their equine activities. This position involves daily management tasks, emergency response, and oversight of student interactions with horses, ensuring a safe and educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Daily care and management of horses, including feeding, watering, and cleaning stalls as necessary.
  • Ensure the health, well-being, and physical fitness of horses at the Equine Center and during off-campus events.
  • Administer medication to sick or injured horses as advised by the University's Veterinarian.
  • Procure and store grain, hay, shavings, medications, and other farm supplies appropriately.
  • Maintain tack and equipment for student and instructor use.
  • Oversee daily turnout of the horses.
  • Interact with students to guide and train them in horse care and handling.
  • Be available by mobile phone for emergency situations at the center.
  • Oversee the barn in the absence of the barn manager.
  • Be available for night checks and work one weekend day.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both spoken and written.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Commitment to diversity and working with a diverse population.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Full-time work schedule of 40 hours per week, including weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Equine Studies or a related field.
