About the position

The Assistant Bookkeeper will play a crucial role in supporting the finance team by verifying financial records and transactions. This position involves processing accounts payable and receivable, maintaining the general ledger, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and capable of providing administrative support to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable and post invoices.
  • Assist with check runs and accounts receivable.
  • Cash posting and invoicing responsibilities.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and report on petty cash.
  • Prepare report data for the Executive Director to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Executive Director as requested.
  • Respond to questions and requests for information from grantors and reporting agencies.
  • Maintain an accurate and organized file system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or AA Degree in Accounting or Business Administration is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit bookkeeping.
  • Expertise in QuickBooks, Sage, and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand financial data, processes, and procedures.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and accounting software.
  • A high degree of attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
