About the position

The Assistant Buyer for Sporting Goods/Automotive at Big R Stores is responsible for providing operational support to the Buyer, focusing on business management and problem-solving within the product category. This role involves developing a deep understanding of the company's business and market position, working closely with vendors and suppliers, and executing responsibilities to achieve sales, margin, and inventory goals. The Assistant Buyer will also be expected to demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills while managing multiple tasks independently.

Responsibilities

• Perform operational functions supporting buyer to achieve sales, margin and inventory plans
• Write purchase orders and manage the purchase order process with suppliers ensuring on time and accurate delivery
• Demonstrate advanced product knowledge by sharing information with buyer through competitive shopping and market trend research
• Independently identify priorities and proactively work to achieve efficiency in purchase order writing, item maintenance and administrative tasks
• Establish and maintain a reputation of responsiveness in the marketplace
• Troubleshoot issues and negotiate with suppliers accordingly
• Utilize various software applications daily

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to maintain focus on goals and objectives that deliver results
• Ability to apply new practices in a constantly changing environment

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Microsoft Excel
