About the position

Who We Are: Westminster is a premier retirement community with dedicated and skilled staff, dynamic leadership, innovative services, and first-class facilities. The Assistant Chief Engineer (Asst. Director of Plant Operations) is responsible for co-managing the care and maintenance of all aspects of the physical plant. This includes the hiring, training, and supervising of all plant personnel, coordinating the life safety program, and procuring supplies, materials, and equipment. The role is crucial in ensuring that the physical environment is safe, functional, and conducive to the well-being of residents and staff alike. In this position, you will establish routine and preventative maintenance schedules for the checking of all equipment and buildings. You will supervise the performance of Plant associates, contracted services, and subcontractors, ensuring that all work meets the high standards expected at Westminster. Additionally, you will assist with training and evaluating Plant staff, providing input regarding staff disciplinary issues and annual evaluations. Maintaining the operation of Plant HVAC, Life Safety, emergency medical, and power-generating systems and equipment will be a key responsibility. You will coordinate and supervise contractors and maintenance operations and projects, ensuring that all fire systems and safety equipment within the Westminster community are maintained to the highest standards. Implementing established and required changes in emergency policies and procedures will also be part of your duties. You will coordinate the work efforts of the maintenance department with all other departments, advising and consulting with the Plant Director on maintenance and repair needs concerning structure, equipment, and grounds. Regular inspections of equipment and systems for proper functioning and safety will be necessary, as well as inspections of buildings and grounds for compliance with Extraordinary Impressions Standards, local codes, ordinances, and safety regulations. You may also be required to fill in to complete work orders or apartment refurbishments as needed. Delegating authority to staff for task details will facilitate the smooth flow of materials and services, and you will be responsible for the daily maintenance, distribution, and updates of the community work order system.
