About the position

The Assistant CFO (ACFO) at Frye Regional Medical Center plays a crucial role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, directly supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in safeguarding the hospital's assets. This position is responsible for ensuring that the financial statements, including the books and records, are prepared and maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ACFO oversees the operations of the Accounting/Finance Department, which includes the preparation of financial statements, maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, internal audits, SOX controls, accounts payable, balance sheet reconciliations, and budget preparation. In this role, the ACFO implements and adheres to regulatory, GAAP, and other changes that affect the accounting cycle, providing timely and effective service to both internal and external customers. The position ensures compliance with company financial and accounting policies and procedures, while also ensuring that internal controls are effective in both design and operation. This includes routine monitoring of controls to ensure that the monthly close deadlines are met, account reconciliations are performed, and supporting documentation is maintained for all activities. The ACFO prepares various financial packages as requested, such as cost reports and tax documents, and assists in various projects as needed. Additionally, the ACFO assists with the identification and independent assessment of financial risks, establishment and monitoring of mitigation plans, and communication of financial risks and opportunities to the regional CFO and hospital CEO. The role also involves monitoring financial performance and maintaining reasonable and appropriate financial plans and forecasts, ensuring the financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the Accounting/Finance Department including financial statement preparation, maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, internal audit and SOX control, accounts payable, balance sheet reconciliations, and budget preparation.
  • Implement and adhere to regulatory, GAAP, and other changes that affect the accounting cycle and provide timely and effective service to both internal and external customers.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial and accounting policies and procedures and ensure internal controls are effective in both design and operation, including routine monitoring of controls.
  • Ensure the monthly close deadlines are timely met, maintain account reconciliation and supporting documentation for all activities, perform account analysis, and prepare various packages as requested.
  • Assist with the identification and independent assessment of financial risk, establishment and monitoring of mitigation plans, and communication of financial risk and opportunity to the regional CFO and hospital CEO.
  • Monitor financial performance and maintain reasonable and appropriate financial plans and forecasts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA designation or an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive financial healthcare or equivalent experience in general accounting, financial systems, financial statement preparation, review and analysis, and multi-discipline management experience.
  • Strong ethics and excellent communication skills.
