About the position

The Assistant CFO (ACFO) at Frye Regional Medical Center plays a crucial role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, directly supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in safeguarding the hospital's assets. This position is responsible for ensuring that the financial statements, including the books and records, are prepared and maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ACFO oversees the operations of the Accounting/Finance Department, which includes the preparation of financial statements, maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, internal audits, SOX controls, accounts payable, balance sheet reconciliations, and budget preparation. In this role, the ACFO implements and adheres to regulatory, GAAP, and other changes that affect the accounting cycle, providing timely and effective service to both internal and external customers. The position ensures compliance with company financial and accounting policies and procedures, while also ensuring that internal controls are effective in both design and operation. This includes routine monitoring of controls to ensure that the monthly close deadlines are met, account reconciliations are performed, and supporting documentation is maintained for all activities. The ACFO prepares various financial packages as requested, such as cost reports and tax documents, and assists in various projects as needed. Additionally, the ACFO assists with the identification and independent assessment of financial risks, establishment and monitoring of mitigation plans, and communication of financial risks and opportunities to the regional CFO and hospital CEO. The role also involves monitoring financial performance and maintaining reasonable and appropriate financial plans and forecasts, ensuring the financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the Accounting/Finance Department including financial statement preparation and maintenance of the general ledger.
  • Implement and adhere to regulatory, GAAP, and other changes affecting the accounting cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial and accounting policies and procedures, and ensure effective internal controls.
  • Meet monthly close deadlines, maintain account reconciliations, and prepare supporting documentation for all activities.
  • Assist in the identification and assessment of financial risks and establish monitoring and mitigation plans.
  • Communicate financial risks and opportunities to the regional CFO and hospital CEO.
  • Monitor financial performance and maintain appropriate financial plans and forecasts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA designation or an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive financial healthcare experience or equivalent experience in general accounting, financial systems, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience in review and analysis, multi-discipline management, and ethics.
  • Excellent communication skills.
