About the position

The Assistant Chief Information Officer (ACIO) for the Department of Agriculture is a Senior Executive Service (SES) position responsible for leading and directing the information technology function within the Research, Education, and Economics (REE) mission areas. The ACIO coordinates IT resources, formulates long-range plans, and evaluates the effectiveness of IT efforts to meet mission needs. This role involves overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of automated information technology services and activities, ensuring alignment with USDA objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the information technology function within the REE mission areas.
  • Coordinate all information technology resources in the Mission Area.
  • Work closely with USDA and program leadership to leverage IT resources.
  • Formulate long-range plans and objectives for Mission Area information resources management.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the Mission Area's IT efforts in meeting mission needs.
  • Direct, coordinate, oversee, and manage the planning, development, implementation, validation, operation, and maintenance of all automated information technology services and activities within the Mission Area.
  • Determine resource needs and allocate personnel, funding, and materials to achieve overall work objectives.

Requirements

  • Must have progressively responsible executive leadership and supervisory experience indicative of senior executive level management capability.
  • Experience at or above the GS-14/15 grade level in the federal service or equivalent in the private sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in strategic vision setting, strategic communication, effective decision making, budget, and successful program execution.
  • Knowledge and experience in data governance and application design principles, concepts, standards, and practices of large-scale IT operating environments.
  • Management experience related to collaboratively working with different levels of an organization, including influential senior leaders.
