About the position

The NYC Department of Buildings seeks a supervisory professional to oversee engineering and architectural analysis of structures and building equipment systems. This role involves guiding plan examination personnel, ensuring compliance with regulations, and facilitating the approval of construction projects. The position aims to enhance the quality of life for New Yorkers by ensuring safe and lawful building practices.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, guide, and mentor plan examination personnel on complex projects.
  • Assign work and monitor team and individual examiner workload.
  • Screen incoming jobs for completeness and compliance with Agency service levels.
  • Administer quality control checks for project reviews and document objections clearly.
  • Facilitate resolution of objections and approval of jobs by meeting with applicants and examiners.
  • Assist the Chief Plan Examiner in managing unit operations and workload management plans.
  • Represent the Chief Plan Examiner at meetings as assigned.
  • Collaborate with other examiners to address unit level issues and improve standards.
  • Interact with borough management and other units to accomplish tasks.
  • Perform original plan examinations, special audits, and zoning reviews.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in civil or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of relevant experience, or a master's degree in civil or mechanical engineering.
  • A baccalaureate degree in civil or mechanical engineering technology and two years of relevant experience.
  • A Bachelor of Architecture or a Master of Architecture from an accredited college or university.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is part of a five-year first professional degree program and one year of relevant experience.
  • A baccalaureate degree in architectural technology and one year of relevant experience.
