About the position

The Assistant Civil Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting project teams to develop world-class designs for various civil engineering projects, including new constructions, alterations, and redevelopments. This position involves working closely under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer, ensuring that civil plans are adapted to meet budget constraints, design factors, and client needs throughout the design and construction process. The projects will primarily focus on the infrastructure for electric generating facilities, which includes both the construction of new generation facilities and the improvement or expansion of existing ones. Key responsibilities will include the design of electric generating facilities, which encompasses site layout, grading, and storm drainage. Additionally, the Assistant Civil Engineer will be involved in designing roads and railroads in the vicinity of these facilities, as well as combustion waste landfills, treatment ponds, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The role may also require participation in source emission testing and assisting with various ad hoc projects as assigned by managers. The Assistant Civil Engineer will be expected to perform all other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in creating designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.
  • Work with the project team throughout the design and construction process.
  • Adapt civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
  • Design electric generating facilities including site layout, grading, and storm drainage.
  • Design roads and railroads in the area of facilities.
  • Design combustion waste landfills, treatment ponds, and ensure environmental compliance.
  • Conduct source emission testing.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.
