About the position
The Assistant Club Manager at BJ's Wholesale Club is responsible for overseeing specific areas of the club, including Operations, Merchandising, Member Services, or Perishables. This role involves providing leadership, ensuring compliance with company policies, and delivering a positive service experience to members. The manager will also function as the Manager on Duty (MOD) for a significant portion of their scheduled shifts, managing all club departments and addressing member concerns.
Responsibilities
- Oversee specific areas of the club such as Operations, Merchandising, Member Services, or Perishables.
- Provide leadership and direction to all departments within the club.
- Collaborate with other Assistant Managers to assess Team Member performance and develop talent.
- Assist in hiring, training, and administering corrective action as needed.
- Evaluate departmental performance and make operational decisions to maximize sales and profits.
- Communicate departmental activities effectively to club Team Members and management.
- Perform Club Self Audits and control procedures to ensure compliance with policies.
- Monitor customer service levels and ensure a positive service experience for all Members.
- Establish operational efficiencies and productivity standards within the department.
- Maintain the building, equipment, furniture, and fixtures in working order.
Requirements
- Knowledge of store operations, receiving, asset control, maintenance, human resources, and cash office procedures.
- Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, Email).
- High school diploma or college degree preferred; experience in big box wholesale, retail, grocery, or management is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including managing cross-functional teams and training team members.
- Open shift availability required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a managerial role within a retail environment.
- Familiarity with inventory management and merchandising strategies.
