About the position

The Assistant Coach for Girls Wrestling at Cedar High School plays a vital role in supporting the head coach in various coaching responsibilities. This position focuses on developing student athletes' skills, game strategies, and techniques, while fostering a positive and motivating environment for the athletes. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to ensure the team's success and adherence to regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach with various coaching responsibilities.
  • Conduct practices and instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
  • Motivate student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.
  • Assess player's skills and assign team positions.
  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time for individual and team development.
  • Coach and instruct players regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observe players during competition and practice, keeping the head coach informed of individual or team improvement needs.
  • Determine game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
  • Maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
  • Adhere to state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Care for, maintain, and requisition equipment, supplies, and uniforms properly.
  • Participate in special activities such as banquets, award nights, and assemblies.
  • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, and equipment inventory.

Requirements

  • Experience in coaching or playing wrestling at a competitive level.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of wrestling.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student athletes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational skills to manage practice schedules and team activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as an assistant coach or head coach in wrestling.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
