About the position

The Assistant Coach for High School Track Jumps is a seasonal position within the Kent School District, responsible for supporting the head coach in training and developing student-athletes in the jumps discipline. The role emphasizes adherence to district and WIAA requirements, ensuring a safe and effective coaching environment while fostering student equity, excellence, and community involvement.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in planning and conducting training sessions for high school track jump athletes.
• Monitor and evaluate athlete performance and provide feedback for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with district and WIAA regulations regarding coaching and athlete safety.
• Maintain a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes student equity and excellence.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.

Requirements

• Must be at least 19 years of age for assistant coaching positions.
• Valid first aid and CPR certification required.
• Completion of the KSD online application process including professional reference forms.
• Annual completion of WIAA general rules clinic and sport-specific rule clinic prior to the season.
• Completion of Concussion recognition and management training as required by Washington State Law, renewed every three years.
• Completion of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness and Training as required by Washington State Law, renewed every three years.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience coaching track and field, particularly in jumps events.
• Knowledge of current coaching techniques and athlete development strategies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
