About the position

The Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball at the University of Texas Permian Basin is responsible for supporting the management of a competitive NCAA Division II athletic program. This role involves assisting with various aspects of the program, including conditioning, practices, recruiting, and travel arrangements, while promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to plan and execute successful training sessions, evaluate student-athlete performance, and ensure compliance with NCAA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the management of the NCAA Division II athletic program.
• Conduct regular team practice sessions and coach student-athletes.
• Evaluate student-athletes' performance in practice and competition.
• Monitor the conditioning and training of student-athletes.
• Advise and counsel student-athletes regarding compliance with rules and regulations.
• Coordinate recruiting functions, including visits and evaluations.
• Engage in opponent scouting and film breakdown.
• Schedule and supervise individual student-athlete workouts.
• Participate in public relations activities and fundraising efforts.
• Ensure athletic equipment is available and in proper condition.
• Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camps as approved.
• Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling and travel arrangements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding recruitment and retention of student-athletes
• Possess an unencumbered driver's license and ability to travel

Nice-to-haves

• Prior coaching experience
• Minimum of two years working in a campus or athletic environment or as a collegiate athlete
