About the position

The Assistant Coach for Men's Soccer at Dartmouth College plays a vital role in the coaching staff, contributing to the planning, coaching, recruiting, and promotion of the men's soccer program. This position requires collaboration with the head coach to develop game strategies, evaluate recruits, and ensure compliance with NCAA and Ivy League standards. The Assistant Coach is expected to demonstrate a commitment to the academic and personal welfare of student-athletes while fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes suggestions and recommendations to planning and implementing the conditioning, training, and coaching programs for the men's soccer team.
  • Prepares scouting reports and game plans for opponents.
  • Makes recommendations to the head coach regarding adjustments to game plans and line-ups during competition.
  • Teaches men's soccer skills in specialty areas to student-athletes during practices, games, and training sessions.
  • Evaluates performance of athletes and offers technical, strategical, and mental instruction and advice.
  • Demonstrates a sincere interest in the academic, personal, and physical welfare of each student-athlete; counsels team members as necessary.
  • Independently seeks and develops new training concepts and sport-specific knowledge to enhance coaching staff knowledge.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of an overall recruiting plan, including determining program needs and selecting recruiting events.
  • Identifies qualified students and talented athletes, communicates with prospects, and organizes campus visits.
  • Maintains appropriate recruiting records as required by the NCAA and stays informed about the College's programs.
  • Ensures compliance with NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations.
  • Provides input in planning and administering the budget for the men's soccer program.
  • Plans and reconciles recruiting and team travel expenses.
  • Communicates with alumni, parents, and supporters regarding the program's status.
  • Promotes Dartmouth and the men's soccer program through camps, clinics, and community involvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of men's soccer skills and strategies.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a diverse community.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to recruit effectively under selective admissions standards.
  • Experience playing and/or coaching men's soccer at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population.
