About the position
The Assistant Coach for Varsity Boys Wrestling at Mason City High School is responsible for providing guidance and support to student-athletes, ensuring their safety and welfare while promoting discipline and sportsmanship. The role involves conducting practices, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with the head coach and other staff to enhance the wrestling program. The assistant coach will also be evaluated on their performance and adherence to school policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct practice sessions within specified time limits set by athletic coordinators and the head coach.
- Ensure no practices are held on Sundays, holidays, or during early dismissals due to inclement weather.
- Establish and enforce safety and health rules for athletes.
- Verify that all athletes have completed necessary paperwork before participating in practices.
- Maintain an inventory of equipment and submit it to the head coach after the season.
- Recommend purchases of equipment and supplies to the head coach as needed.
- Cooperate with other coaches to optimize the sports program.
- Submit an alphabetical squad roster to the activity coordinator promptly after the squad is established.
- Stay updated on new developments and techniques in wrestling coaching.
- File transportation requests with the athletic office and ensure athletes are transported by authorized means.
Requirements
- Valid Iowa coaching endorsement or authorization.
- Demonstrated personal and moral character that prioritizes the safety and welfare of student-athletes.
