About the position

The Assistant Coach I, Women's Basketball at Florida Gulf Coast University plays a vital role in supporting the Women's Basketball program. This position involves recruitment, player development, academic monitoring, and ensuring the discipline and social development of student-athletes. The coach will also be responsible for preparing practice sessions, game strategies, and promoting the athletic program through various community engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Prepares and conducts practice sessions, teaching individual and group game skills and techniques.
  • Assists with game strategy and position assignments.
  • Monitors and maintains discipline and conduct of athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program.
  • Promotes the athletic program through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
  • Manages operational activities of the program, including travel coordination, scheduling, and nutrition.
  • Compiles and analyzes video for scouting purposes.
  • Complies with all University and ASUN Conference regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Four years of directly related full-time experience or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain within three months of employment.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of all aspects of the sport and the ability to teach/coach collegiate student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate recruiting practices and an ability to identify athletic and academic talent.
  • Knowledge of student-athlete intellectual, emotional, and social development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to use independent judgment.
