About the position

The Assistant Coffee Shop Manager at Hy-Vee plays a crucial role in supporting the Department Manager to deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer service. This position focuses on maintaining a positive company image while ensuring that customers receive friendly and efficient service. The Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and ensuring that the coffee shop meets its goals for product quality and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to customers, including taking product orders.
  • Takes customer orders at the counter and works with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Handles food safely and maintains a clean work area, ensuring food freshness.
  • Anticipates product needs and prepares/replenishes products as necessary.
  • Checks in products, puts them away, and may review invoices.
  • Runs department registers, receives payments, and makes change as applicable.
  • Removes trash in a timely manner and maintains personal hygiene and dress standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience, with Sanitation (Food Safety) courses encouraged.
  • One year of similar or related experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials, and guide people.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role or managing a team.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
