About the position

The Assistant Collections Manager plays a crucial role in leading the Collections team at Oregon Community Credit Union (OCCU) to achieve key performance metrics while minimizing losses. This position ensures compliance with OCCU's policies and legal regulations, supports loss mitigation functions, and fosters a high-performing team environment focused on excellent member service and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading the Collections team to achieve key performance metrics.
  • Ensure departmental operations comply with OCCU's policies and legal requirements.
  • Support loss mitigation functions including first party collections and workout loans.
  • Hire, schedule, develop, coach, and assess team members to create an effective organization.
  • Develop individual goals for team members that align with organizational objectives.
  • Prepare reports to monitor staff expectations, production, and department volume.
  • Create and perform quality assurance monitoring of collection activities.
  • Manage and monitor member contact systems to optimize productivity and member experience.
  • Resolve complex problems or escalations of member issues, inquiries, or complaints.
  • Assist with general ledger reconciliation and accounting items.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of similar or related experience.
  • Associate degree required and/or relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Fair Debt Collection, applicable laws and regulations, and OCCU policies and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a leadership role within collections or a related field.
  • Familiarity with general ledger reconciliation and accounting processes.
