About the position

The Assistant Controller at Abbott plays a crucial role in leading financial decision-making and oversight within the Nutrition division. This position involves managing financial planning activities, analyzing performance trends, and ensuring accurate reporting of financial data. The Assistant Controller will also be responsible for employee management and development, as well as coordinating financial submissions to corporate, making it a key leadership role within the finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial decision making around base performance trends, risks, and opportunities from consolidation of financials and supporting business analytics.
  • Oversee and coordinate the Division's financial planning activities, including the compilation, analysis, and distribution of management review packages for Latest Best Estimates (LBEs).
  • Prepare and analyze Division P&Ls for planning activities and month-end Actuals.
  • Act as a liaison between Division Finance and various divisional financial planning groups globally.
  • Oversee all Division-level bi-weekly and month-end sales reporting.
  • Coordinate all scheduled POC planning activities, including the creation and distribution of division-level templates, schedules, instructions, guidelines, and calendars.
  • Manage, coach, and develop exempt employees.
  • Conduct month-end close and reporting for the Division, including variance analysis and performance commentaries.
  • Coordinate financial submissions to Corporate, ensuring follow-through on management review and finance-related action items.
  • Oversee all Division-level month-end and ad hoc sales reporting activities.
  • Perform and/or coordinate ad hoc analyses for Division Controller, upper-level management, and Corporate.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience in accounting, financial planning and analysis, or financial auditing.
  • Typically requires 10 years of relevant work experience to develop the competence required for the position.
  • Advanced degree or CPA preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately with others.
  • Ability to interact with finance and non-finance professionals at all levels.
  • Ability or aptitude to supervise others.
  • Demonstrated initiative, analytical thinking, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups under minimal supervision and challenging time constraints.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial processes, accounting methodologies, and Division-specific operations.
