About the position

The Assistant Controller position at Concrete Pumping Holdings is a full-time role based in Denver, Colorado, requiring a CPA license. This position is crucial for overseeing the financial operations of the company, which is a leading provider of concrete pumping and waste management services in the U.S. and U.K. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Controller and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and compliance with internal controls. The role involves managing a team of accounting staff, developing their skills, and ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity within the department. The Assistant Controller will oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial processes, including the preparation and analysis of complex account reconciliations and financial statements. This position also requires a proactive approach to identifying areas for improvement in accounting practices and procedures, as well as ensuring compliance with SOX standards. The successful candidate will assist in audit activities and perform various ad hoc analyses as requested by other departments. This role demands strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a detail-oriented mindset. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in driving results and fostering a collaborative environment within the finance team. Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage accurate and timely completion of the monthly, quarterly and year-end processes
  • Supervise, develop and evaluate accounting staff to maximize efficiency and productivity
  • Make recommendations for improvements after assessing current practices and procedures
  • Prepare and analyze complex account reconciliations (e.g. Cash, AR, Revenue)
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by staff to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Perform analysis on ad hoc projects as requested by other departments/branches
  • Evaluate accounting operations, policies/procedures, and systems for SOX compliance
  • Assist in quarterly and year-end financial audit activities
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in accounting field or similar role
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, MBA or equivalent preferred
  • CPA required
  • 2+ years of progressive accounting experience in a supervisory/management role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization
  • Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
  • Knowledge of employee relationship building and performance management techniques
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
