About the position

The Assistant Controller will be a key member of the accounting and finance team, supporting the senior management team. This role requires an individual whose attitude and work ethic align with the company's commitment to excellence, trust, and cooperation. In this role, the Assistant Controller will refine and manage the preparation, review, and reporting of periodic financial statements, analyses, and budgets, including progress reports on various programs and activities. The individual will assist in directing the day-to-day financial activities across all areas of the company's operations, which includes financial analysis and projections, revenue management, joint interest billing, acquisitions and divestitures, engineering, and land management. Ensuring the timely completion of revenue and joint interest audits is also a critical responsibility. The Assistant Controller will work closely with senior management to develop and maintain company accounting policies and best practices, aiming to create operational efficiencies. Leadership and mentoring of the accounting and office staff will be essential, as well as providing interdepartmental support for functions interfacing with accounting and finance. The role will also involve assisting in strategic planning and forecasting projects, providing support to all areas of accounting and finance, and collaborating with the accounting team to streamline and improve processes. Additional tasks and projects may be assigned as required.

Responsibilities

  • Refine and manage the preparation, review, and reporting of periodic financial statements, analysis, and budgets.
  • Assist in directing the day-to-day financial activities for all areas of the company's operations.
  • Ensure the timely completion of revenue and joint interest audits.
  • Work with senior management in the development and maintenance of company accounting policies and best practices.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring of the accounting and office staff employees.
  • Assist in strategic planning & forecasting projects.
  • Provide support to all areas of accounting and finance and collaborate with the accounting team to streamline and improve processes.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as required.

Requirements

  • CPA with 8+ years of experience, preferably at least 5 years in oil and gas E&P.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Strong analytical, critical, and economic thinking skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • Understanding of joint venture agreements and Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies (COPAS) accounting guidelines.
