About the position

The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in supporting the Controller in managing the accounting and financial activities of the College. This position ensures that all financial activities are accurately recorded and reported, facilitating sound decision-making and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Assistant Controller also supervises key staff, oversees cash management, and contributes to the annual audit process, making it essential for maintaining the financial integrity of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Controller in developing, implementing, and monitoring accounting and financial systems.
  • Perform second level review of accounting and reporting for the Foundation and Endowment Fund.
  • Supervise the Senior Accountant and Student Billing Office Manager, providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Maintain expertise in tax-related issues and prepare necessary IRS forms and reports.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and assist with the College's financial statement audit report.
  • Work with the Controller on cash management tools to minimize non-earning cash balances.
  • Conduct analytical reviews of the College's general ledger accounts and prepare necessary adjustments.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on Federal, State, and local grants, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Research and implement new software applications to improve accounting processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business or equivalent knowledge and skills.
  • 3-7 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA certification with audit experience.
