About the position

The Assistant Controller - Real Estate Fund Accounting position at SS&C Technologies is a pivotal role that involves monitoring and managing the risk profiles and performance attribution of hedge funds across various strategies, including equity long/short, fixed income, global macro, and commodities. This position is designed for an individual who will work closely with investment analysts, operations, and IT teams to model and monitor investment risks associated with multi-strategy, multi-asset class portfolios. The role requires a strong understanding of risk management processes and the ability to ensure that funds operate within specified risk limits while monitoring for any style drifts that may occur independently of these limits. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing daily risk modeling and monitoring processes. You will also be tasked with answering risk-related queries from various business units, including investor relations, business development, investment management, technology, compliance, accounting, and operations teams. A key aspect of the job will involve maintaining and enhancing existing workflows to ensure the highest quality and completeness of data, as well as understanding production data flows and their impact on various applications and report outputs. Additionally, you will assist in the development of systems used to evaluate investment risks and the systems that produce risk data. Interacting with risk data vendors, including software and data providers, will also be part of your responsibilities. Familiarity with the accounting, valuation treatment, and risk measurement for a variety of asset classes, such as equities, futures, fixed income securities, listed options, currency forwards, contracts-for-difference, credit default swaps, interest rate swaps, and other OTC products, will be essential. You will also review modeling and mapping reconciliations to ensure accurate and complete risk reports, making this a comprehensive role that requires both technical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor risk profiles and performance attribution of hedge funds spanning multiple hedge fund strategies, including equity L/S, fixed income, global macro and commodities.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance daily risk modeling/monitoring processes.
  • Ensure that funds operate within prespecified risk limits and monitor for style drifts independent of any limits.
  • Answer risk-related queries from various business units including investor relations, business development, investment management, technology, compliance, accounting and operations teams.
  • Maintain and enhance existing workflows to ensure the highest quality and completeness of data.
  • Understand production dataflows and how they impact various application and report output.
  • Assist in the development of systems used to evaluate investment risks and the systems producing risk data.
  • Interact with risk data vendors including software/data providers and consultants.
  • Become familiar with the accounting, valuation treatment and risk measurement for a variety of asset classes, including equities, futures, fixed income securities, listed options, currency forwards, contracts-for-difference, credit default swaps, interest rate swaps and other OTC products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Fintech, or Business.
  • 5+ years' experience in accounting/financial services; hedge funds experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented.
  • Team player mentality with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, advanced Excel skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree, CPA/CFA are pluses, not required.
