The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in the financial management of the University and its affiliated entities. This position assists the Director of Accounting & Controller in overseeing various accounting functions, including accounts receivable, student billing, loan disbursements, fixed asset accounting, treasury, and financial accounting and reporting. The Assistant Controller is expected to work within different accounting environments, specifically FASB and GASB, and must possess significant knowledge of government and not-for-profit accounting to effectively prepare financial statements and external reporting. In the realm of financial management and tax, the Assistant Controller will assist in preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations and financial statements for all affiliated entities of the University. This includes aiding in the preparation of external financial reporting at both the state and national levels, as well as assisting in the preparation and review of annual tax returns and tax statements for both the University and its affiliated entities. The role also involves preparing, reviewing, and approving accounting transactions, including journal entries. The Assistant Controller will also have responsibilities related to audit and compliance, where they will assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls to ensure compliance with applicable university policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. This position will assist in coordinating the annual external audit for the University and all affiliated entities. Leadership and supervision are key components of this role, as the Assistant Controller will lead and supervise a team, which includes planning and assigning projects/tasks, making hiring, separation, and disciplinary recommendations, and conducting performance evaluations. Additionally, the Assistant Controller will assist with updating the chart of accounts and security administration within the Banner Finance module, and perform other duties as assigned.
