About the position

The Assistant Controller at Swagelok Kansas City is a key member of the Accounting/Finance team, responsible for managing the month/quarter/year-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role requires strong analytical skills and experience in financial reporting, overseeing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and optimizing accounting procedures to support the company's financial health.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of month/quarter/year-end financial statements.
  • Oversee accounts payable, employee expense reports, cash control, sales tax filing, payroll processing, and corporate payroll tax compliance.
  • Supervise the activities of the accounts receivable department, including billings and cash receipts application.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance.
  • Communicate with external entities to provide timely reports and documents as needed.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for audits and reviews.
  • Work with the Director of Finance to prepare and present financial reports for strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, providing actionable recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • At least six (6) years of accounting experience, including preparation of month/quarter/year-end reports.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft business applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience with payroll software/process (Paychex a plus).
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of accounting principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience in financial analysis and budgeting.
  • Leadership experience of at least 2 years.
