About the position

The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in supporting the Controller to achieve the resort's financial goals and maintain robust internal controls across hotel operations. This position involves overseeing accounting staff, ensuring timely financial reporting, and implementing effective policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily guidance and supervision to all accounting employees.
  • Prepare reconciliations and address day-to-day issues that arise.
  • Recommend or provide training for accounting staff to ensure proficiency in their roles.
  • Ensure accurate production of financial reports in accordance with reporting calendars and timely submission of all reports.
  • Administer effective internal controls for the department and the Resort.
  • Evaluate established policies and procedures, revising or modifying as necessary.
  • Prepare all year-end reports, including tax reporting packages.
  • Maintain the books of accounts for the company and prepare monthly reports.
  • Prepare audit schedules and coordinate with external and internal auditors during their fieldwork.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in completing and implementing all audit recommendations.
  • Prepare budget forms for company budgets and assist the Controller in completing budget packages.
  • Streamline operations and automate processes to minimize labor hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Five years of related experience, including at least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in other accounting and office programs.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary languages used in the workplace.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to respond to questions from groups of managers and clients.
  • Mathematical skills for tasks such as frequency distribution and analysis of variance.

Nice-to-haves

  • SMS experience preferred, but not required.
