About the position

Ares Management is seeking an Assistant Controller for the US Real Estate Equity Accounting team, responsible for overseeing multiple funds and managing external fund administrative teams. The role involves financial reporting, portfolio management, and treasury functions, requiring a combination of private and public accounting experience, particularly in Real Estate funds. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, adaptive, and hands-on, ensuring optimal processes in a fast-paced environment while fostering strong relationships across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and oversee fund service providers to ensure performance aligns with agreed service levels.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external service providers for quality and timely financial data flow.
  • Oversee calculation of property performance, AUM, NAV, management fees, and cost recharges.
  • Support preparation of financial statements, investor reports, and management reports.
  • Provide deal support, including financial analysis and execution of deal cashflows.
  • Monitor cash and manage cash distribution processes.
  • Allocate and review costs and expense recharges.
  • Manage audit and tax reporting processes.
  • Participate in new Fund launches and maintain manager Fund track record.
  • Review capital call and distribution notices and cash allocation schedules.
  • Support on DDQ and presentations for fundraising.
  • Implement technology to automate processes for efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a similar field.
  • Licensed CPA (active or inactive) preferred.
  • 6-9 years of relevant professional experience including public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and/or fund accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of business and accounting principles (US GAAP).
  • Advanced Excel experience, including building models and macros.

  • Real estate G/L system knowledge.
