About the position

The Assistant Controller at Magna International Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the Plant Controller with the financial management of the plant's operations. This position is integral to ensuring that the goals of customers, employees, and investors are balanced and met effectively. The Assistant Controller will oversee the financial activities of the plant, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards while also contributing to the strategic planning and operational efficiency of the organization. In this role, the Assistant Controller will supervise the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff, ensuring that all financial transactions are processed accurately and timely. The position requires a keen eye for detail, as the Assistant Controller will monitor the perpetual inventory system and maintain financial control of Fixed Assets. Regular review and analysis of Financial Statements will be a key responsibility, providing insights that will aid in decision-making processes. The Assistant Controller will also assist in the preparation of the Annual Business Plan and participate in quarterly reviews to assess performance against financial goals. A significant aspect of this role is to improve the link between financial data and shop floor reporting, which includes conducting cost reviews, analyzing indicators, and reviewing the business plan. Continuous performance evaluation of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff will be necessary to ensure departmental goals are met, and the Assistant Controller will analyze end-of-month inventory for accuracy and proper valuation, including off-site and in-transit inventory. This position is essential for monitoring and improving procedures to ensure that all inventories are considered and valued appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff.
  • Monitor perpetual inventory system.
  • Maintain financial control of Fixed Assets.
  • Review & analyze Financial Statements.
  • Assist with Annual Business Plan preparation and quarterly review.
  • Improve link between financial data & shop floor reporting (cost reviews/indicators/business plan review).
  • Review, on an ongoing basis, the performance of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff, ensuring that departmental goals are being met.
  • Analyze end of month inventory for accuracy and proper valuation (including off-site and in-transit inventory). Monitor and improve procedures to ensure that all inventories is considered and valued.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Minimum 4 years related experience
