About the position

The Holston Army Ammunition Plant is a significant supplier of explosive materials to the U.S. Department of Defense, equipped with advanced technology for nitration chemistry, acid handling, and other chemical-processing operations. As an Assistant Controller, you will play a crucial role in managing the accounting and compliance functions of the facility. Your responsibilities will include assisting the Controller in overseeing the accounting activities, ensuring that accounting policies align with the business unit's objectives, and maintaining effective communication across all levels of the organization. You will also be responsible for providing training, coaching, and technical guidance to department personnel, as well as participating in the hiring process for the group, including interns. In this position, you will act as an advisor to your subordinates, helping them meet their objectives and resolve any technical issues that may arise. You will lead the accounting group, ensuring that adequate training and backup are in place. A critical aspect of your role will be to maintain procedures and internal control systems that safeguard assets and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). You will review and analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance with both company and industry standards, and you will be responsible for the monthly close and financial results. Additionally, you will be expected to demonstrate newly acquired skills and stay updated on relevant changes in the accounting field, while also performing other duties as required within the finance functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Controller in managing accounting and compliance functions.
  • Maintain accounting policies to achieve business unit objectives.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the business area and Sector.
  • Provide training, coaching, counseling, and technical guidance to department personnel.
  • Participate in hiring for the group, including interns.
  • Act as an advisor to subordinates to meet objectives and resolve technical problems.
  • Provide leadership to the accounting group and ensure adequate training and backups.
  • Maintain procedures and internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, and CAS.
  • Review and analyze financial data for accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Responsible for monthly close and financial results.
  • Demonstrate newly acquired skills and stay updated on accounting field changes.
  • Perform other duties as required within Finance functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to communicate and influence all levels of organization in the business decision-making process.
  • Ability to make clear presentations to all levels of management concerning accounting processes.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Understanding of financial concepts and accounting standards.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
