About the position

AVR is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their team, which has recently expanded through the acquisition of McNamara Contracting. This role is crucial for managing various accounting functions, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and supporting the overall financial health of the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting background, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciliation of monthly shop inventory, including intercompany billings and recording inventory transfers.
  • Calculation of any use tax for parts that do not qualify for a sales tax exemption.
  • Higher level reconciliation of complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Determining month-end inventory using various methods and adapting as necessary.
  • Entering fixed asset additions and disposals into the BNA software.
  • Tracking payroll liabilities and working with the payroll department to resolve discrepancies.
  • Managing intercompany receivables and payables, including month-end eliminations.
  • Preparing necessary workpapers at month-end to reconcile with the general ledger.
  • Preparing monthly financial statements for complex entities.
  • Performing quarterly payroll tie-outs to the general ledger and quarterly tax reports.
  • Assisting with audit preparations and reconciling accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong customer service skills, self-motivated and a self-starter.
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously under minimal direction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Viewpoint software is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
