About the position

The Assistant Controller will play a crucial role in the financial leadership team of Crane 1 Services, Inc., a leading overhead crane service company. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving financial controls, reporting, and operational efficiency. The Assistant Controller will oversee accounting operations, ensure compliance with GAAP principles, and provide actionable insights to management based on financial data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions.
  • Generating accurate, timely accounting reports that detail operational performance and present actionable insights to management.
  • Analyzing financial data specific to production costs, equipment maintenance expenses, and supply chain efficiency, summarizing the overall financial health of the business.
  • Identifying cost variances and recommending strategies to optimize spending and improve operational efficiency across sites.
  • Providing technical support and advice on the SAGE 300 ERP systems for teams in the branches.
  • Reviewing and recommending enhancements to accounting workflows and ERP configurations to meet the unique needs of an industrial environment.
  • Managing Staff Accountant, A/R Manager, and A/P Manager.
  • Participating in financial standards setting and in the forecast process.
  • Collaborating on the establishment of financial benchmarks for service departments, contributing to the forecasting and budgeting process.
  • Preparing financial statements and producing budgets according to schedule.
  • Facilitating external audits and overseeing compliance with income tax regulations, acquisition accounting, and asset depreciation specific to equipment-heavy industries.
  • Planning, assigning, and reviewing staff's work.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensuring compliance with GAAP principles.
  • Working closely with the Controller and CFO to refine financial strategies and align procedures with the operational priorities of an industrial company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum 8-12 years' experience in a Sr Accounting role (e.g. Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller) including minimum 5 years supervising/managing Accounting/Finance team.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with revenue recognition and cost accounting.
  • Knowledge of Projects, Percentage of Completion, Lease and Insurance accounting and similar concepts.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Proficiency preferably with SAGE 300 or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills (V-Lookups and pivot tables).
  • Experience with financial reporting software is a plus.
  • Experience in industrial services, manufacturing, or related industries is a plus.
