About the position

Life University is seeking an individual to fill the role of Assistant Controller within our Finance Department. This accounting position is crucial for coordinating daily operations and special assignments in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Since its establishment in 1974, Life University has been a pioneer in postsecondary education, particularly in health and wellness education. In this role, the Assistant Controller will work closely with the Accounting Manager to oversee daily accounting activities, including payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting tasks as needed. The individual will serve as the primary administrator for online banking functions, which include managing stop payments, wire transfers, and positive pay, as well as generating daily activity reports and communicating banking information to relevant parties. The Assistant Controller will also oversee significant projects such as the monthly and annual closeout processes and the preparation of documentation for annual audits. Additionally, this position will assist the Controller with audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory requirements and policies. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in preparing monthly and annual financial reports, managing cash for federal, state, and private financial aid programs, and conducting analyses on various accounts and business activities as assigned. This position will also involve serving as a liaison with the Finance department and participating actively in the Retirement Plan Committee. The Assistant Controller will oversee payroll processing and may take on additional responsibilities and special projects as needed. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily accounting activity in payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting with the Accounting Manager.

  • Perform analysis on various accounts and business activities as assigned by the Controller.
  • Serve as a liaison with Finance and participate in the Retirement Plan Committee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting.
  • Considerable knowledge of fund accounting principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact well with the University community.
