About the position

The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in supporting the Controller in managing the accounting operations of the company. This position is responsible for ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting, as well as assisting in the implementation of internal control policies. The Assistant Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, prepare financial reports, and assist with audits and budgeting processes. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of financial data and ensuring that the company adheres to all relevant regulations and standards. In terms of financial reporting, the Assistant Controller will assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements. This includes being responsible for the preparation of monthly financial reporting for manufacturing facilities located in Roscoe, IL, and Slidell, LA. The Assistant Controller must ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, which involves preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis. The position also entails supporting the month-end and year-end closing processes, which includes preparing and reviewing accruals, prepaids, and other adjusting entries. The Assistant Controller will assist in maintaining and enforcing internal control policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations. Additionally, this role supports both internal and external audit processes. In terms of tax compliance and reporting, the Assistant Controller is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate preparation and filing of all local and sales & use tax returns. The role also includes oversight of accounts payable and receivable functions, which involves vetting and setting up new customers and vendors, monitoring aging reports, and assisting in collections efforts. The Assistant Controller will provide guidance and support to the accounting team, assist with the training and development of accounting staff, and ensure that accounting policies and procedures are followed. Participation in special projects and initiatives assigned by the CFO & Controller is also a key aspect of this role, including assisting in the implementation of new ERP and accounting systems and processes. Other related duties may be assigned by the Controller or senior management as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements.
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly financial reporting for manufacturing facilities in Roscoe, IL and Slidell, LA.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare and review accruals, prepaids, and other adjusting entries.
  • Assist in maintaining and enforcing internal control policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis a plus.
